Cheap websites… What's the deal?
How do you know how much you should pay for a website?
Where do we start? We meet a huge amount of people that have had a cheap website built and come running to us to help sort out the mess that's been left behind. They end up pulling their hair out trying to add new pages and sections to a website that's not meant to be added to and amended over time. You often find that the cheaper your website, the less flexibility you have to do what you want it to do.
That's not to say cheap websites don't have their place.
If you're looking for something small (perhaps just a landing page?) then they could well be a great place for you to start. However, if like many of the people we talk to, you need something that suits YOUR aims and objectives and generate some money; more than likely you'll need something tailored to you.

1. How secure is your website?
Making sure your website is secure is something a lot of people overlook. We hear many horror stories of sites being hacked and taken over. It can be days, if not weeks, and £££'s later before you fix the problem and get back up and running. That cheap website isn't looking so cheap now right?

2. Do you look like you?
No matter what you do, it's important for your business or organisation to stand out in the crowd and show the world your unique personality. If you're using a free website template where you're just filling boxes with text and images, you're probably not doing yourself much justice.
It's important for your online presence to shine and reflect what you've worked hard to create. After all, it's going to be the single most accessible marketing tool you can use, with a worldwide audience. If you don't get it right here, it's not going to get you much new interest in this new digital age! But it's also important for those who already know who you are. If someone is already a customer, or familiar with what you do, you want them to automatically know they're in the right place.

4. Can it do what you want it to do in the future?
Many off-the-shelf, or template, websites from large companies are VERY difficult to be built upon as you grow and develop. They are often released in version numbers; so if you're wanting to customise your site, any new features that are released (and more importantly security updates) can't easily be installed without a complete re-build. You might start getting big gaps appearing on your website as you update content, or functions that used to work perfectly, now don't for some reason. They are essentially build once solutions, then re-build every 2-3 years. We've heard it time and time again.

5. Can your website be found?
The realm of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) can often be confusing. It's basically making sure people can find you on Google. Many cheap websites don't even take this in to consideration, which is pretty scary considering the sheer amount of potentially similar organisations out there competing for attention.
