The site has achieved some fantastic results for us, which we are continuing to build upon. Arkom really understood our needs and the needs of our market, which is why the site is so straightforward, easy and most importantly, enjoyable to use. The fact that we have received awards, recognition and have thousands of users on the site, proves that we have got it right.”

Interactive website design for @school - Pedegog

The @school Interactive website was designed to make it easy for children, teachers and parents to exploit the wealth of nursery and primary level education materials on the internet.

Requirement:

The interactive website needed to be simple, so users, (mainly primary pupils and their teachers) could navigate it with confidence.

As resources and educational requirements are changing constantly the site needed to have a facility to update content quickly and easily.

  • Easy for users aged 4-13 to navigate
  • Bright primary colours & designs
  • Clear curriculum subject areas but also fun sites and online games
  • An interactive school message board

Solution:

The site was launched in 2000 to make it easier for schools to find relevant content on internet.

The @school interactive website was launched primarily as an educational resource for Key Stages 1 and 2, which would be paid for on a subscription basis. Arkom developed a specialist subscription application, which enabled the credit card details of each subscriber to be debited at agreed periods from when they signed up (every 3, 6 or 12 months).

The current site was designed and built by Arkom to accommodate up to 100,000 separate activities and web links. Thus the navigation of the site had to be clear and simple. The search system is very comprehensive allowing a site wide search with very sophisticated features.

A powerful Content Management System is fundamental to the site, allowing the team @school to manage the content. They can also check for broken web links, manage databases of both registered users and 30,000 schools and link up and unlink activities.

This highly interactive website is such an outstanding success that it received a BETT award from the Daily Telegraph small business awards 2001 and has been accredited to the National Grid for Learning (NGFL) approved websites.

Benefits:

  • The colours & designs facilitate easy navigation for users.
  • The Content Management System simplifies the site’s management.
  • Subscription service is straightforward and easy to administer
  • Valuable information source for schools and pupils
